INSPIRE Registry

INSPIRE comprises a number of elements that require clear descriptions and the possibility of being referenced through unique identifiers. Registers provide a means of assigning identifiers to these elements, as well as recording their labels, definitions and descriptions in different languages. The INSPIRE Registry provides an access point to a set of centrally managed INSPIRE registers, whose content is based on the INSPIRE Directive, its Implementing Rules and the associated Technical Guidelines.

Since 1 July 2026, the INSPIRE Registry has been part of EU Vocabularies. Existing identifiers and links under the inspire.ec.europa.eu domain remain valid.

Some of the most commonly used registers are listed below:

  • INSPIRE themes: Spatial data themes as defined in the Annexes to the INSPIRE Directive.
  • INSPIRE Feature Concept Dictionary: Terms and definitions required to specify the thematic spatial object types covered by the different INSPIRE data specifications.
  • Controlled code lists: Code lists and their values, as defined in the INSPIRE Implementing Rules on the interoperability of spatial data sets and services (Commission Regulation (EU) No 1089/2010).
  • Application schemas: All application schemas of the consolidated INSPIRE data UML model.
    • UML diagrams: Approved INSPIRE UML models available through an interactive HTML view.
    • XML Schemas: XML schemas providing the GML encoding of the INSPIRE data models.
  • Metadata code lists: Code lists and their values, as defined in the INSPIRE Implementing Rules on metadata (Commission Regulation (EC) No 1205/2008).
